Editorial & Medical Review Process
CalorieFig publishes free calculators and health-education content. This page explains how we keep it accurate, sourced, and safe — and where we deliberately defer to qualified professionals.
Our Standards
Because this is health information, we hold content to a higher bar than a typical blog. The goal is not to impress search engines — it is to give you numbers and explanations you can act on without being misled.
Evidence-based formulas
Calculators use established, peer-reviewed equations (e.g., Mifflin-St Jeor for resting metabolism) and published activity multipliers. We document the formulas in plain language so you can see exactly how a result is derived.
Sourced content
Guides and articles cite authoritative bodies — WHO, NIH/NIDDK, ACSM, the National Academies (NASEM), and peer-reviewed journals. We avoid unattributed claims and clearly separate established science from emerging or debated topics.
Clinical review
Health-related content is reviewed for accuracy and safety before publication by a qualified reviewer. Where a topic is medically sensitive (diabetes, PCOS, pregnancy, medications, surgery), we state plainly when professional guidance is required.
How Content Is Created and Reviewed
A consistent process is what makes the standards real.
1. Research & draft
A topic is drafted from primary and authoritative sources, not from other blogs. Claims are tied to citations; estimates are labelled as estimates.
2. Review
Content passes an editorial accuracy check and, for clinical topics, a review by a qualified professional. Safety caveats and "see a clinician" guidance are added where needed.
3. Publish & date
Each piece carries a published date. We do not present stale guidance as current.
4. Monitor & update
We revisit content on a rolling basis and when underlying guidance changes. Material updates are dated so readers can see what changed.
Reviewers, Conflicts & Corrections
Who reviews the content
Health-related content is reviewed for accuracy and safety by a qualified reviewer before publication. Site owner action required: add the name and relevant credentials (e.g., registered dietitian, physician) of your reviewer here, and keep them accurate. We do not publish unnamed or unverifiable "specialist" titles, because false credentials damage trust and violate health-content guidelines.
Conflicts of interest
CalorieFig earns no commission that changes what we recommend. Any affiliate or advertising relationships are disclosed in our FTC disclosure. Calculator results are generated by formulas, not by sponsored products.
Corrections policy
If something is wrong or outdated, we correct it and date the change. To report an issue, contact us at the contact page. We treat accuracy reports seriously because the topic is your health.
Not medical advice. CalorieFig provides educational estimates. It does not diagnose, treat, or prescribe. For personal guidance — especially with diabetes, pregnancy, medications, or a medical condition — consult a qualified healthcare provider or registered dietitian.
