Consistency Beats Elimination

In type 2 diabetes, the body clears glucose more slowly, so spreading carbohydrate across the day produces smaller, manageable glucose rises. Medical nutrition therapy (ADA / Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics) commonly targets:

  • ~45% of calories from carbohydrate overall (a 40–50% range is typical).
  • About 30–45 g per meal and 15–30 g per snack.
  • Similar carb amounts at similar times daily.

Our Type 2 Diabetes Calorie Calculator outputs diabetes-oriented macros, and the GDM Meal Carb Calculator logic applies to type 2 meal splits too. See the Diabetes hub.

Educational only. If you use insulin or sulfonylureas, carb changes can cause hypoglycemia — coordinate with your diabetes care team.
